The Efficacy of the 2nd Amendment and Its Implications in Modern-Day America

The Second Amendment is one of the most controversial and polarizing amendments in American history, cementing deep cultural divides between the Democratic and Republican parties. As of recent times, many people have questioned the modern efficacy and usefulness of the Second Amendment, especially due to its role in massive shootings and the sale of assault weapons. No matter what, it is clear that the Second Amendment is not as relevant and useful to our country today as it used to be. For my research, I identify several issues, including the NRA’s involvement in turning guns from simple tools into God-given rights on par with free speech in the First Amendment as well as deeply funding politicians and other powerful people to protect their own interests. From this work, I surmise that there are several solutions we can apply in order to fix the issues with the Second Amendment.
