Advances in medical diagnostic technologies have resulted in an increasing number of diagnostic reports being available on digital channels; however, technical jargon, numerical results and reporting in a foreign language (English) can still be hard for participants to understand. This becomes an important question in a multilingual country like India in the sense that language and health-literacy requirements may play a role in the way a participant makes sense of the diagnostic data. The current study was based on a qualitative-dominant mixed-methods design to investigate participants' awareness of medical reports and their opinions on a proposed AI-based voice explanation system in their preferred language. MediTrack was described to participants as a proposed service rather than deployed, and participants reported their perceptions of it rather than a tested or compared experience.
Descriptive survey procedures and conservative thematic analysis of Hindi/Hinglish interviews has been used in the research. The meaning units were translated to categories and themes and translation and transcription limitations were addressed with caution. Empirical evidence is limited to the Analysis. AI-assisted explanation as a form of communication aid that should be monitored clinically.
